berlin-based obstacle records returns for its second release with another ep that draws on uk garage heritage while offering its own fresh take via a trio of newer names to watch out for.the ep’s original track comes from lesus - a hitherto unknown name that splices its stripped down ghost-esque rhythmic backbone with an uneasy chiming melody. the a2’s remix from obi - another name to keep track of - retains the pace & 2step stylings of the original while combining it with a chicago house sensibility.on the b side we find two alternate versions from the mysterious prince of ethiopia. the 808 version mutates the track into a old school hip hop instrumental, with the aforementioned 808 sounds to the fore, replete with vocal sampels, record scratches and ray guns. the mt40 version takes those elements, loses the snarling bassline, and pins it all to a broken beat rhythm, once again underlining obstacle’s reverence for uk dance music culture & its desire to push it into surprising new territory.

philpot and pauls musique chief tobi ettle starts this year a new series of releases from young and well talented producers around the periphery of the label and record store. the range of musical direction will be very open minded but in general there will be dub techno, deep and minimal techno as well as electronic beats with some italo disco and experimental approach. first is done by steppin wolf originally from basel and now staying in frankfurt/main. before he was living in stuttgart and he was frequenting the pauls musique record store always bringing updates of his latest production. here hes now dropping a deep piece of techno with several acid splash and some kind of a boards of canada-feeling. watch out also for his current release on kanns division mana-all-nite. thanks for purchasing a real copy!

daniele baldelli producer now has nothing to envy to the daniele baldelli dj. this is demonstrated by the authoritativeness of the first two 12inch of six of the series cosmic temple on mondo groove label. what strikes the eye are the covers, with fluorescent colors, which will form a patchwork created by aldo drudi (the designer of valentino rossi), a large mosaic that interprets garish aesthetics/logo cosmic. but immediately then the music takes the stage, 3 tracks in chapter 1 and 3 tracks in -chapter 2-, able to tell the true mood of the imaginary baldellis sound and take them to a land of wonders. chapter 4: an ingredient that can not miss in baldelli cosmic project is afro-beat: joka joka, sung by congolese bale mondonga. vhanessa is a magical flight in search of distant galaxies, a tribal electro joints game a kind of rubik s cube. the kraftwerk-ian archetipo leaves us waiting for the arrival of the chapter 5 and 6 to complete this cosmic temple, to listen to and to watch the puzzle of 6 covers

st. petersburg talent ivan latyshev drops a killer ep on the ever-dependable dessous recordings. ivan has been making waves over the past couple of years with his distinctive brand of deep, groove-heavy house music on labels such as what’s in the box, street king and spaghetti monster - but this to my youth ep sees the young russian step up to another level. the title track shows a deep affiliation for classic house vibes, mixed with some jazzy flourishes and swung grooves. the sense of euphoria is tangible, and the spoken word vocals add a level of house mysticism that will be always welcome on deeper leaning dance-floors. cant go away goes a shade deeper still, bringing layers of delay and reverb to the track that help shape a true slow burner. old ages also highlights ivan’s love of jazz rhythms and sounds, building from a live drum break into a rolling deep house monster - its infectious stuff and suggests ivan latyshev is going to be name to watch in the next months and years.
